For many years Pamela Smith had planned to extend her bungalow with a dream conservatory extension. The unexpected occurrence of lockdown and spending more time at home provided Pamela with the motivation to put her plan into action. Having been recommended to work with SRJ by friends, Pamela trusted in us to create a bespoke conservatory space that she could enjoy all year round.
“I first started thinking about a conservatory several years ago. I live in a bungalow with a north facing living room, and very little natural light enters the front windows. At times the room felt gloomy and depressing.”
The main objective of Pamela’s conservatory was to take full advantage of the natural light from her south facing garden. Second to this was creating a comfortable space offering strong thermal performance in both winter and summer that overlooked the beauty of her Carnock garden.
“I have a south facing garden which floods with light all day. It seemed to me that the answer would be a small conservatory which would allow me to sit ‘outside’ all year round. Of course, lockdown happened in the meantime, so my plans were delayed for quite a long time and, as soon as it was possible, I made arrangements to get a quote.”
For over 30 years, SRJ has installed quality home improvement solutions in Scotland, developing, growing, and establishing ourselves as a household name. Because of this, Pamela was recommended our services by close friends due to our reliability and reputation.
“I asked friends for recommendations and was advised to use SRJ as they are a reliable firm with a good reputation. I didn’t visit the showroom at that time because of Covid regulations but relied on the excellent advice given to me by the salesman at the time of my quote.”
At SRJ we want our customers to have full control over their home improvement. Therefore, our conservatories are available in a wide range of materials. Once Pamela had decided on the style of conservatory that best fit her home, work went underway to construct it.
For her new conservatory, Pamela opted for a grey stone underbuild to match the colour of her existing garden paving and home. This provided a solid foundation onto which her uPVC windows and doors would rest.
At SRJ, our uPVC windows and doors offer market-leading levels of thermal efficiency, making them a great choice for conserving heat in winters of rising energy costs. As well as this, Pamela’s conservatory will be just as efficient during the hot summer months by remaining cool even in direct sunlight.
To compliment her uPVC windows and doors, Pamela’s conservatory was topped with an Ultraframe glass roof. Unlike other designs on the market, an Ultraframe glass roof can withstand the extreme weather conditions of Carnock, such as snow, strong winds and rainfall. This is thanks to the clever chambered top caps, which provide structural strength and weatherproofing while preventing unnecessary heat loss.
Although Pamela opted for uPVC doors and a glass roof, at SRJ, our conservatory designs can feature a wide range of door and roof options to best suit your home.
By working closely with Pamela, we were more than happy to support her alongside the build. Our team was always on hand to offer honest advice and answer any questions about the installation process.
We were also conscious of keeping any disruption to Pamela’s everyday life to a minimum during the building process. Therefore, we worked to a strict schedule that she was aware of every step of the way.
“The installation went like clockwork. I was given a timetable for the schedule of works and I was kept fully informed. The workmen were professional, friendly, and very patient in answering my endless questions!”
We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Pamela to create her dream conservatory and are proud to be the company she trusted with her new extension.
“The conservatory far exceeds my expectations. It has become my ‘happy place’. I love the bright light streaming in and the warmth from the sun. It is a lovely place to sit and read my books or listen to music. I just wish that I had done it sooner!”
“I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend SRJ for any similar work.’
