When you need to close your French door, whether exiting to the outdoors or shutting it for the evening, start by gently pulling or pushing the door to the closed position, making sure it is properly aligned in the frame. To secure the door in place, lift the handle upwards. This upward motion engages the cams, the components in the door mechanism that lock into place, securing the door shut. It is also essential to keep in mind that if both doors are open, ensure to close the slave door first, followed by the master door. This ensures that the locking mechanisms align correctly and that both doors can be secured properly without any issues.

With the door shut and the handle lifted to engage the cams, simply lift the handle upwards to its fullest extent and then turn the key until the locking mechanism is securely fastened. These restrictors prevent the door from opening too widely, but they do not hold it in an open position; they are only there to protect your door from damage due to over-extension. These can be adjusted with a Phillips screwdriver to suit your desired opening range, allowing for greater control over the door’s motion and positioning. If you want to hold the doors in an open position, a small weight or door stop can be used.
